History "Continuing a Proud Quality Tradition"
Flight Support, founded in 1971, specializes in the repair of turbine
blades for Pratt and Whitney engines. Commercial activity has been
focused in support of, but is not limited to GG4, JT3D, JT8D, JT9D,
engines. Within the military arena, over ¾ million blades
and vanes have been repaired for the US Air Force and Navy.
The company continues to distinguish itself by providing the industry
with turbine blades that are in “like new” condition
and therefore tend to last as long as new blades. OEM data shows
that the average repaired blade lasts only 1/3rd as long as new
blades.
Flight Support’s history of uncompromising quality is the
basis of its reputation in the market place. John Blake, the founder,
and Pratt & Whitney toolmaker implemented and demanded this
quality standard throughout his career. In addition, John was responsible
for Flight Support being the first company to receive a FAA Specialized
Service license. He was the individual who created the tool concepts
that remain in use at Flight Support today.
Every tool used in the repair of turbine blades at Flight Support
directly conforms to all of the location points and angles that
the OEM uses in determining air-worthiness. Of specific interest,
is the fact that Flight Support tools measure each characteristic,
even when the OEM does not specify a tool for that purpose. This
philosophy and creativity has been continued by his son Wayne who
is the Chief Operating Officer of Flight Support today.
Flight Support’s modern 10,000 and 17,500 square foot facilities
contain the environment and equipment needed to maintain a tradition
of excellence in the refurbishment of turbine blades. Located in
North Haven Connecticut, easy access is afforded by air, road, or
rail.
Flight Support was the first vendor to be source approved by Pratt
& Whitney for the repair of JT8D-15A,-17A T3 and T4 blades.
In addition, Flight Support has been Pratt and Whitney’s vendor
of choice when doing research on the repair of turbine blades.
With superior quality of manufacture at the heart of Flight Support
programs, the precision results are apparent.
Hundreds of thousands of Flight Support parts are safely transporting
people and cargo while improvements in the
manufacturing process to keep costs competitive.
In February of 1996 Flight Support entered into a partnership with
Gideon Vaisman, of Integrated Technologies Corp., Kellstrom Industries,
and Tara Technologies. Gideon has extensive experience and education
in aerospace technologies, and now serves as President of Flight
Support.
Flight Support has large inventories of high quality turbine blades
that are provided to end user airlines and engine overhaul shops.
Essentially, within approximately 2 weeks of receipt of a customer’s
turbine blades, Flight Support sends an exchange set for immediate
engine installation. Financial matters are handled within 30 days.
Accordingly, Flight Support now offers its customers a parts exchange
program, which dramatically reduces turn time and therefore enhances
engine build schedules.
