Laser Welding Solves Warpage Problems
Flight Support has two 5 axis laser welding machines that are “vision” system controlled. This unique combination of technologies allows for effective and intelligent robotic motion while welding turbine blades, vanes, etc.

Relatively thin materials can now be repaired without concern of warping caused by high heat input. In the photograph above, CEO Wayne Blake explains the proper use to the vision system. In addition to low heat input, the deposition of materials is extremely accurate both in location and volume. As a result, machining and blending are reduced to an absolute minimum and cracking due to shrinkage is virtually non existent.

Applications continue to surface for this high tech equipment. Many parts which were not considered repairable can now be routinely welded and put back into service.
